Breakaway [from summer]

Breakaway Music Festival is a newer festival in Grand Rapids, running its' first year in 2017. I couldn't make it last year, but thought this would be a great way to ring in the end of the summer after reuniting with everyone back at GVSU. Breakaway is awesome for a small festival, but also strange in that it has a mixture of all different kinds of artists - EDM, house, rap and R&B. Despite the mixed vibes throughout the two nights, all the artists definitely lived up to the hype.

On day 1, we got to see Nghtmare, Jai Wolf and Odesza for our second time. I don't even need to get into the details of how they killed it as expected. In a strange turn of events, my friends and I were lucky enough to be able to meet Jai Wolf later at the Intersection afterparty and pick his brain into the late hours.

Day 2 I got to see Flatbush Zombies (a rap band I have loved for years) and again, I was not disappointed. Nothing beats looking over and seeing your crew almost as hype as you are. We ended our night with Khalid's "OTW", and I'm forever in my feels because of it.

The one downfall of going from Electric Forest to Breakaway is definitely the atmosphere, but I'm not comparing the environment but rather the people. Seeing people so in love with the music and the art and fashion is so incredible in the forest, making it extremely hard to not laugh at every fake teenage boy in a jersey or Hawaiian button down. Anyways, we are all here to have a good time.

See ya next year Breakaway!
