For someone who has lived in Michigan their entire life, you would think that I would have been to Detroit more times. I realized this past winter break that I had only been to Detroit when I had set plans- Tigers or Lions games, passing through to Windsor, concerts or theatre shows.
This past week, Leah, Mariah and I made a trip to Campus Martius to celebrate Mariah's 21st. Our relaxing day consisted of no set plans, but rather walking through the outdoor markets, around the ice skating rink, enjoying lunch at Central Kitchen & Bar, and boutique shopping in Capitol Park.
I'm proud and amazed at how much Detroit has grown and modernized in the past few years. The downtown area evolved from a place that many feared and stereotyped to a place that is trendy, alternative and constantly changing. Although it still has a long way to go, I love the downtown area and wish to make a trip down to the city again soon to explore other bars and restaurants.
And Happy 21st Birthday to my best friend and soul sister. Love you Mariah!
