Sororities come with many stereotypes: they only party, they are stuck up, they only care about trivial things, they just sing songs and look pretty... and I hate to admit it, but I believed every single one of them. That is, until I went greek.
The second I was initiated, I saw that the Panhellenic community stood for a lot more. There was a heavy dedication to philanthropic work, a strong bond between sisters/brothers, and an abundance of communication and public speaking skills. You are granted so many opportunities to give back to great organizations such as the Alzheimer's Association, Maincoast Sea Mission, Sigma Kappa Foundation, etc. I knew that affiliating with Sigma Kappa would allow me to continue my volunteer work, while also preparing me for my future as a nurse. It's a heavy commitment, but I knew I could handle it. I knew I wanted it.
